Ezequiel Lavezzi discusses mental health struggles after retirement
Former Argentine striker Ezequiel ‘Pocho’ Lavezzi has spoken publicly about his struggles with mental health following his retirement from professional football in 2019. Lavezzi revealed that he suffered from depression, required hospitalization, and continues to undergo medical treatment.
He described the transition out of high-performance sports as a difficult period characterized by an immense void. Lavezzi noted that the birth of his son, Vittorio, in 2024 has been a primary driver in his recovery. He also credited the support of his family and close friends, including Lionel Messi and Sergio Agüero, for helping him through his most difficult moments.
