Ezequiel Molina addresses safety of home inverter batteries
Ezequiel Molina, executive director of Grupo Cometa, has addressed concerns regarding the safety of keeping inverter batteries inside domestic spaces. Molina stated that having an inverter battery within a home does not represent an inherent danger, provided certain precautions are met.
However, he noted that lead-acid batteries require proper installation and ventilation, particularly during the charging process. This is because they can release hydrogen, a flammable gas that poses a risk of fire or explosion if it accumulates in enclosed areas.
Molina also warned about the risks of sulfuric acid, which can cause severe skin burns and eye injuries if handled improperly. He advised users to be cautious when adding water to batteries that require maintenance to avoid spills and recommended consulting a technician to prevent sulfation, a white substance that accumulates on terminals due to improper charging levels.
