Renaissance Residence trial postponed after 11-hour hearing
The trial regarding the collapse of the Renaissance Residence in Hatay, which caused 269 deaths during the February 6 earthquakes, continued during its 11th hearing at the Hatay 3rd High Criminal Court. The hearing lasted 11 hours.
During the proceedings, contractor Mehmet Yaşar Coşkun challenged a recent expert report, claiming it lacked scientific validity and was prepared using a 'copy-paste' method. Other defendants, including building inspection officials Mehmet Haşim Eraslan and Bülent Seküçoğlu, participated via the SEGBİS video conferencing system.
Plaintiffs' lawyers requested that all defendants be charged with 'possible intent' based on the findings of the sixth expert report. However, the court rejected this request. The court ruled that the detention of the defendants should continue and postponed the next hearing to October 26 to address remaining procedural deficiencies.
