Ezine cheese to implement QR code traceability system

Ezine Municipality is launching a QR code traceability system for Ezine cheese, the first Turkish cheese to receive geographical indication registration from the European Union. The initiative aims to ensure product authenticity and consumer safety by allowing buyers to scan a code to identify the specific dairy farm, business, and production process used.

Produced at the foothills of the Kaz Mountains, the cheese is made from a blend of sheep, goat, and cow milk. The unique flavor is attributed to the local livestock feeding on endemic plants and thyme. The region produces between 250,000 and 300,000 tins of cheese annually, with each tin weighing approximately 18 kilograms.

Ezine Mayor Güray Yüksel stated that the project seeks to prevent consumer grievances and ensure the reliable delivery of this high-value brand. The municipality plans to involve the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, as well as the Ezine District Governor's Office, to implement the system.
