F1 Academy drivers highlight lack of career progression for women

Former F1 Academy drivers Maya Weug and Abbi Pulling have raised concerns regarding the career progression of female racers following their time in the all-women series.

Maya Weug, a former Ferrari-backed driver, reported that her planned 2026 racing program collapsed, leaving her without scheduled races. She cited a lack of financial support and limited opportunities for women once they exit the female-only category as primary obstacles.

Abbi Pulling, the 2024 F1 Academy champion, echoed these sentiments, stating that while the series is beneficial, it does not solve the systemic issues of advancement. Pulling noted that a true breakthrough requires women to progress regularly into Formula 3, Formula 2, and eventually Formula 1 practice sessions, highlighting that no women are currently competing in the F2 or F3 categories.
