New‑Zealand Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson said he was overwhelmed by a flood of hate messages after a clash with Sergio Pérez at the 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix, describing how his phone “exploded” from the volume of online harassment. He credited his mental resilience, stating, “The most important thing was to develop the mental toughness to handle it.”

Later in the year, Lawson reflected on a personal milestone at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where he drove the legendary Ford GT40 that once won Le Mans. He admitted his hands were still trembling, calling the experience “very, very special” and “indescribable,” and said the car’s vibration and sound were unlike anything he had driven before.
