F/A-18 Hornet crash in Washington: Bodycam footage released
Body camera footage released by the Yakima County Sheriff's Office shows the moment local authorities encountered a fighter pilot following a jet crash in Washington. The pilot, who had successfully ejected, was seen with minor facial lacerations and appeared shaken as he approached responders.
The F/A-18 Hornet aircraft crashed into a mountainside near Rimrock Lake, approximately 55 miles southeast of Seattle, during a routine low-level training flight on June 13. The impact ignited a wildfire and produced a large plume of black smoke.
The pilot was assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 11, part of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing based in Miramar, California. The U.S. Marine Corps is currently investigating the cause of the aviation mishap.
