FAA evaluates Peraton's role in US air traffic control modernization

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is reportedly considering scaling back the role of Peraton, a Virginia-based contractor, in the United States' air traffic control modernization program. Peraton was awarded a $1.5 billion contract to serve as the prime integrator for the project, which aims to replace aging telecommunications infrastructure, radar, and software by 2028.

Sources familiar with the matter have expressed frustration, with one claiming that Peraton has not performed significant work since receiving the contract. Concerns have also been raised regarding subcontractor oversight and schedule delays at a facility in Alaska. However, some sources noted that the FAA has also contributed to the friction by retaining significant control over individual projects and hindering Peraton’s ability to operate as the lead integrator.

An FAA spokesperson stated that the agency is making progress on the modernization effort and has not issued a formal warning or penalty to Peraton regarding its performance. Peraton has defended its position, stating it is a ‘proud and trusted partner’ in the FAA’s modernization efforts and that the program is proceeding as expected.
