FAA Moves to Streamline Commercial Space Licensing under Trump Administration
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced that the Federal Aviation Administration is proposing a new rule to speed up commercial space licensing. The rule would allow the FAA to waive certain legal and environmental requirements for launch sites, re‑entry sites, experimental permits and spacecraft, aiming to reduce regulatory red tape and boost U.S. competitiveness in space.
The proposal aligns with a 2025 executive order from President Donald Trump that calls for a more competitive launch marketplace and a higher cadence of commercial space activity by 2030. The Wall Street Journal reported that the plan would let space companies skip some environmental reviews, further streamlining the permitting process.
