Fabens carjacking occurs during high-speed smuggling chase

A high-speed pursuit involving suspected human smugglers in Fabens, Texas, resulted in a civilian being carjacked at gunpoint on Thursday morning. The incident occurred near the intersection of I-10 and Fabens Road around 9:16 a.m.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Rodney Scott, the suspects were traveling at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour before their vehicle was disabled by law enforcement. Following the crash, five individuals fled the vehicle. One suspect reportedly used a firearm to steal a civilian's car at a Speedway gas station.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment but did not sustain serious injuries. Multiple agencies participated in the operation, including the U.S. Border Patrol, CBP, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS). Authorities stated that two individuals have been taken into custody and may face charges related to human smuggling and evading arrest.
