Fabens man arrested for child endangerment after son's ATV crash
Jose Luis Lechuga, 37, was arrested and charged with abandoning or endangering a child following an accident involving his 12-year-old son in Fabens, Texas.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred on October 12 at the intersection of Cypress Street and Wahlen Lane. Investigators determined that Lechuga allowed his son to operate an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on a public road without supervision and failed to disclose that the vehicle's brakes were non-functional.
The child crashed into a guardrail and was transported to a local hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition. Lechuga was booked into the El Paso County Downtown Detention Facility with a $10,000 bond. Sheriff Oscar Ugarte emphasized that ATVs should not be operated on public roadways and stressed the importance of vehicle safety and proper supervision.
