Fabio Celestini emerges as frontrunner for Burnley managerial role
Fabio Celestini has become the leading candidate to replace Nicky Hayen as the manager of Burnley, according to reports from The Athletic. The 50-year-old Swiss coach most recently managed CSKA Moscow in Russia, where he secured a local super cup.
Celestini brings a decorated coaching history, including two domestic cups and a Swiss championship with FC Basel. His candidacy follows the dismissal of Hayen, whose tenure at Turf Moor resulted in only two wins from 14 matches, concluding with a 1-4 loss to Lincoln City.
In previous coaching roles, Celestini has worked with several Albanian players. Notably, in 2019 while managing Lugano, he experienced a public confrontation with Albanian striker Armando Sadiku following a goal against Basel. Despite the incident, Celestini maintained a professional stance, though Sadiku's playing time was subsequently limited.
