Fenice Conai Awards honor young environmental journalists in Urbino
The fifth edition of the Fenice Conai Award, established by the Consorzio Nazionale Imballaggi, was held during the XIV Festival del Giornalismo Culturale in Urbino. The awards recognize journalists under 45 who cover sustainability, the environment, and the circular economy.
Antonio Piemontese won the award in the written category for his article regarding climate scientists leaving the United States. During his acceptance, Piemontese emphasized the necessity of on-site reporting to capture nuances that artificial intelligence and newsrooms cannot.
Rossella Ricchiuti received the award in the audiovisual category for her work on urban greenery and its essential role in city life. Fabio Insenga, deputy director of Adnkronos, highlighted that environmental journalism requires high competence and quality to effectively communicate both successful circular economy models and existing systemic problems.
Fabio Costarella, deputy general director of Conai, noted that while Italy excels in recycling, the circular economy faces global challenges such as energy costs and raw material price fluctuations. He stressed the importance of transparent information to help citizens perform waste separation correctly.
