Fable Diner to close Mount Pleasant location in Vancouver

Fable Diner has announced it will close its Mount Pleasant location in Vancouver, with its final day of service scheduled for August 23, 2026. The restaurant, located in the historic Lee Building at Broadway and Main Street, has operated in the community for over a decade.

Owner Ron MacGillivray cited several factors for the closure, including the inability to secure a favorable long-term lease and difficulties negotiating financial obligations under current conditions. The ongoing Broadway Subway project has also impacted the business; the restaurant reported a roughly 45 percent drop in business since the pandemic, exacerbated by the delayed completion of the nearby subway station.

While the Mount Pleasant site is closing, the Fable group will continue operations at its other locations, including Fable Kitchen on West 4th Avenue and Fable Diner & Grill on Richards Street. MacGillivray expressed gratitude to the staff and regular guests, noting that while no new location is confirmed, the possibility of a future location or food truck remains an interest.
