A 58-year-old factory owner, H’ng Seng Peng, sustained first-degree burns to his neck and hands while attempting to extinguish a fire at his fabric processing plant in Butterworth, Penang.
The fire broke out at a semi-permanent facility used for processing sofa fabrics. The blaze caused approximately 80 percent destruction to the factory building. Several vehicles were also heavily damaged, including a three-ton lorry and a forklift, both sustaining 90 percent damage, and two motorcycles which suffered 50 percent damage.
Emergency services from the Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) were deployed from multiple stations, including Butterworth, Penanti, and Kepala Batas, with assistance from private sector machinery. The fire was brought under control by 6:28 PM and was fully extinguished by 4:35 AM the following morning. The case has been handed over to the Fire Investigation Office (FIO) for further inquiry.
