Fabrizio Cantoro wins Italian U8 chess championship

Fabrizio Cantoro, a young player from Lecce representing the Lecce Scacchi ASD club, has become the new Italian U8 chess champion. He secured the title at the Italian Youth Championships (CIG) U18, held in Cagliari from August 29 to September 5.

Cantoro finished the tournament undefeated, scoring 8 out of 9 possible points. His performance demonstrated technical skill and maturity beyond his years, marking a significant milestone in a career that has already included federal training stages in Spilimbergo and international competitions via federation convocations.

The event, organized by Sport e Salute S.p.A. and the Italian Chess Federation, featured 921 athletes across various age groups. Cantoro was accompanied by several club teammates, including Gabriele Rollo, Elisa Rollo, and Giada Maria De Vitis, who also achieved notable rankings in their respective categories.
