Fabrizio Orrego appointed Vice Minister of Economy in Peru
The Peruvian government named economist Fabrizio Orrego Peche as Vice Minister of Economy, filling the vacancy left by Eloy Durán Cervantes. Orrego, a former senior official at the Central Bank of Peru and former IMF advisor, will join Minister Elmer Cuba and President Keiko Fujimori in pushing legislative proposals aimed at economic, labor and administrative reforms to boost private investment.
On 22 April, the Central Bank of Peru hosted Austrian‑school economist Jesús Huerta de Soto for a conference on financial crises and banking reform. The event highlighted the relevance of his ideas for Argentina, where President Javier Milei has signaled intent to overhaul the charter of the Argentine Central Bank. The lecture also underscored the Peruvian central bank’s reputation for monetary stability under Governor Julio Velarde, offering a regional reference point for reform debates.
