Fabrizio Piscitelli murder case: Italian appellate court overturns life sentence

On 7 August 2019, Fabrizio Piscitelli, leader of the criminal group known as the "Irriducibili," was shot dead while seated on a bench in Rome's Parco degli Acquedotti. The killing sparked a multi‑year investigation that involved extensive video analysis and numerous witness testimonies.

Argentine national Raul Esteban Calderon, identified by prosecutors as Gustavo Alejandro Musumeci, was convicted of aggravated murder with mafia methods and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Third Criminal Court of Rome in March 2025. On 8 May 2024, the Court of Appeal acquitted him, finding that he had not committed the crime. The decision now moves to the Court of Cassation for a final ruling.
