FAC produces 40 tons of agroecological fertilizer in Campo Grande
The Community Support Fund (FAC) operates an urban and pedagogical garden at the Technical Unit of Urban Agriculture (UTA) in Campo Grande, Brazil. Through the ‘Projeto Solo Fértil’ (Fertile Soil Project), the facility utilizes composting to produce an average of 40 tons of 100% organic fertilizer every 40 days.
The project serves multiple purposes: it provides vegetables, fruits, and legumes for emergency social actions related to healthy eating, and promotes environmental education regarding agroecology and school gardens. The organic compost produced is used in UTA gardens, pedagogical sites, and cooperatives, or distributed to the public to improve soil quality.
FAC President Adir Diniz stated that using organic waste for composting reduces environmental impact by diverting waste from landfills while creating fertilizer that strengthens the soil for healthy cultivation.
