Brazil intensifies mental health awareness during Setembro Amarelo
The Setembro Amarelo campaign is highlighting the critical importance of mental health awareness and suicide prevention in Brazil. Data from the Ministry of Social Security shows a 15.66% increase in temporary disability benefits related to mental and behavioral disorders in 2025, reaching over 546,000 cases. Globally, the World Health Organization estimates that mental health conditions cost the economy approximately US$ 1 trillion annually due to lost productivity.
In response to these challenges, regulatory frameworks in Brazil have evolved. As of May 2026, psychosocial risk factors must be integrated into Occupational Risk Management (GRO) and Risk Management Programs (PGR), requiring employers to actively map work organization factors that may impact employee mental health.
Local initiatives are also active, such as the Community Support Fund (FAC) in Campo Grande, which provides workshops and courses to improve emotional well-being and self-esteem among women. Additionally, healthcare units like CAPS TM III are conducting lectures to educate patients on recognizing signs of emotional distress and the importance of seeking professional help, emphasizing that mental health struggles should not be viewed as a weakness.
