Facebook tests full-screen video as BuzzFeed cuts 35% of its workforce

Meta’s Facebook app will trial a full‑screen, video‑first experience for users in “video‑heavy” markets, according to head Tom Alison. He said the move reflects demand for “more immersive, visual, video‑forward experiences” and will roll out later this year with an opt‑out option for a traditional feed.

BuzzFeed announced a 35% reduction – about 180 jobs – across its core divisions after Byron Allen’s family office took control earlier in the year. The cuts affect the main BuzzFeed platform, HuffPost, Tasty and BuzzFeed Studios. An internal memo explained the layoffs are needed to put the business on a path to “profitable and sustainable growth.”
