FACSA to manage Valencia wastewater plants using AI and solar energy

FACSA has been awarded a 3.8 million euro contract by the Entidad Pública de Saneamiento de Aguas Residuales de la Comunitat Valenciana (EPSAR) to manage the wastewater treatment plants in Bétera and Náquera-Bonanza, Valencia.

The modernization project will integrate artificial intelligence to predict oxygen requirements up to 24 hours in advance, allowing for more precise operational adjustments and reduced energy consumption. Additionally, the plan includes expanding photovoltaic solar energy installations to increase electricity self-consumption.

To improve sludge management, FACSA will implement a solar drying system. This technology aims to reduce the water content in the sludge before it is transported to composting facilities, potentially preventing the unnecessary transport of over 1,100 cubic meters of water.
