FactCheck Africa opens TruthGuard Situation Room for Osun State election

FactCheck Africa inaugurated the TruthGuard Election Integrity and Misinformation Situation Room to monitor and counter misinformation ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election. Founder Olasupo Abideen said the hub is designed to protect the electoral information space by providing real‑time monitoring, independent fact‑checking and rapid response to false claims, deepfakes, hate speech and technology‑facilitated gender‑based violence.

The National Peace Committee, through the Kukah Centre’s Election Security Information Hub, has classified 15 local government areas in Osun as critical, high‑ or moderate‑risk for election‑related violence, citing attacks on political gatherings, shootings and assaults on election officials. The Situation Room will bring together fact‑checkers, digital investigators, journalists, researchers, data analysts and gender‑based violence experts to safeguard the integrity of the election.
