Factorial Energy partners with Mitsui Kinzoku for solid-state batteries

Factorial Energy, a US-based solid-state battery developer, has entered into a joint development agreement with the Japanese firm Mitsui Kinzoku to advance all-solid-state battery technology. The partnership aims to integrate Mitsui Kinzoku’s sulfide-based solid electrolytes into Factorial’s Solstice platform to address manufacturing scalability.

Mitsui Kinzoku plans to mass-produce its argyrodite sulfide solid electrolyte at a dedicated facility in Saitama, Japan. This collaboration is part of a broader strategy by Factorial CEO Siyu Huang to build a specialized supply chain coalition rather than developing all components in-house.

Factorial is already working with other industry players, including South Korean specialist Posco Future M, and has established ties with Volkswagen Group’s PowerCo and Hyundai Motor. The goal of these partnerships is to overcome technical hurdles such as energy density and fire risk to commercialize solid-state batteries for electric vehicles.
