Factors influencing differences in home heating efficiency

Identical houses built from the same plans can experience significantly different heating bills due to various technical and behavioral factors. Key contributors to energy consumption differences include the quality and thickness of thermal insulation, the precision of installation, and the presence of thermal bridges in corners, window frames, or structural joints.

Furthermore, the placement of furniture and window treatments can impact heating efficiency. For instance, placing large furniture like sofas or heavy curtains in front of radiators can obstruct air circulation. While a radiator may remain hot to the touch, the inability of warm air to circulate freely can lead to slower heating of the room and higher energy consumption compared to a room where the radiator is unobstructed.
