Factors influencing the value of high-mileage vehicles and machinery

The market value of high-mileage vehicles and agricultural machinery is determined by more than just odometer or hour meter readings. For cars with over 250,000 or 300,000 kilometers, technical condition, service history, and usage patterns are critical. A well-maintained vehicle used primarily for long distances may be in better condition than a lower-mileage car that has been neglected.

Key valuation factors for cars include the specific make and model, engine and gearbox condition, absence of corrosion, and documented repairs such as timing belt or clutch replacements. The age of the vehicle relative to its mileage also plays a significant role in market perception.

Similarly, in the agricultural sector, tractor engine hours do not always equate to clock time, as older mechanical meters often depend on engine RPM. A tractor with 10,000 to 15,000 operating hours may not be exhausted if properly maintained, whereas a machine with fewer hours might require significant repairs due to neglect. Durability depends on the brand, maintenance regularity, operator style, and the complexity of the machine's electronic systems.
