FACUA consumer group secures refunds from restaurants over unlisted bread charges

Ten restaurants across various Spanish autonomous communities have refunded money to FACUA members after charging for bread without specifying the cost in their menus. The establishments involved include La Corte de Pelayo in Oviedo, As de Picas in Gijón, Emma in Suances, DeAtún in Madrid, and several others located in Valladolid, Santander, and Torrelavega.

In addition to the refunds, ten other establishments have updated their menus to explicitly state additional charges for bread following complaints. FACUA noted that previous legal actions against restaurants in Valladolid and Almería also resulted in mandatory refunds.

The consumer rights organization highlighted Article 60.2 of the General Law for the Defense of Consumers and Users, which requires businesses to provide the full final price, including any additional costs for accessory services. Under this law, consumers may refuse to pay for extras such as bread, olives, or table service if they are not clearly detailed in the menu.
