Facua files complaint over alleged Islamophobic chants in Ceuta protests
The association Facua-Consumidores en Acción has filed a formal complaint with the Spanish State Attorney General's Office to investigate alleged racist and Islamophobic verbal aggression. The complaint concerns demonstrations held in support of Ceuta across several Spanish cities on the 2nd of the month.
Facua reported that media coverage and social media amplification revealed insults and expressions targeting individuals based on their religion and origin, specifically directed at the Muslim population. The association provided video evidence from gatherings in Barcelona, Madrid, and Jaén, noting that nearly identical chants were used in different cities on the same day.
Additionally, the association highlighted the presence of flags and banners featuring Nazi, fascist, and Francoist symbols during some of the protests. Facua is requesting an investigation into potential hate crimes and the identification of those responsible for the chants and the dissemination of these messages online.
