Faculty Hospital Plzeň launches 116 million CZK urgent care upgrade with 24/7 psychiatry

The Faculty Hospital Plzeň (FN Plzeň) is undertaking a 116 million CZK modernization of its urgent care department. A new 3‑tesla magnetic resonance imaging system will replace the 2015 unit, improving diagnostic speed and accuracy for emergency, neurological, cardiovascular, oncology and pediatric cases.

A 24‑hour psychiatric ambulance will also open, providing continuous crisis care for patients with acute mental‑health emergencies. Additional upgrades include a new CT scanner, a bariatric treatment bed, communication tablets for patients with visual or hearing impairments, and expanded equipment for the medical emergency service.

Director Václav Šimánek said the project, partly funded by a 75 million CZK EU IROP grant with the hospital covering the remaining 41 million CZK, aims to deliver faster, safer care for residents of the Plzeň and Karlovy Vary regions and to expand crisis‑care capacity across the Czech Republic.
