Facunda Catalina González, FSLN militant, dies at 90
Facunda Catalina González Díaz, a prominent FSLN militant and member of the ‘Heroic Women of El Cuá’, has passed away at the age of 90. She died at her home in the La Colonia Agrícola community, located in the Rancho Grande municipality of Matagalpa, following health complications related to her age.
Born in 1935 in the Yasika Sur region, González joined the FSLN guerrilla struggle at age 25. She operated in areas including El Carmen, Tuma La Dalia, and Zinica, Waslala, working alongside FSLN founders Rigoberto Cruz and Jacinto Hernández. During the conflict with the Somoza Guard, she and her children were captured and detained for several months in the El Cuá barracks before being released.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 30, at the El Carmen community cemetery in Tuma La Dalia.
