AFA postpones ruling on Boca Juniors vs Vélez lineup dispute

The AFA Disciplinary Tribunal has postponed its ruling regarding the protest filed by Vélez Sarsfield against Boca Juniors in the Copa Argentina. The dispute stems from a match played on September 2, which Boca won on penalties after a 0-0 draw.

Vélez filed a 16-page complaint alleging an improper lineup, claiming Boca included six foreign players on the official match sheet, exceeding the regulatory limit of five. Boca has defended the incident as a mere administrative error, noting that one of the players, Ángel Romero, did not actually enter the field of play, thus preventing any sporting advantage.

The Tribunal has scheduled a special session for Tuesday, September 22, to deliver the verdict. While some reports suggest the ruling may ratify Boca's qualification and only impose an economic fine on the club, the final decision remains pending. The outcome will determine who faces Racing Club in the quarterfinals, currently scheduled for September 27.
