Fadi Elhusseini appointed as Palestinian Ambassador to Spain
Fadi Elhusseini, the new Palestinian Ambassador to Spain, has called for continued European pressure to impose sanctions on Israel, stating that such measures “save lives.” During his first public appearance at the Nueva Economía Forum, Elhusseini addressed the political landscape, noting that Hamas is part of the Palestinian political structure and that its future will depend on democratic elections, though current conditions in Gaza and Israeli actions in Jerusalem make such elections unfeasible.
Elhusseini, a career diplomat with previous postings in Egypt, Turkey, and Canada, spoke about his childhood in Gaza and the impact of the Intifadas and Israeli bombings. He described the situation in Gaza as a “genocide” and emphasized a determination to pursue freedom despite the destruction of the Gaza Strip.
Spain’s Minister of Youth and Children, Sira Rego, supported the call for diplomatic pressure, suggesting the suspension of the EU-Israel association agreement and the cessation of all diplomatic and commercial relations with the Israeli government. She also emphasized the need to ensure compliance with International Criminal Court arrest warrants.
