Fado singer Sónia Santos dies at age 46

Fado singer Sónia Santos has died at the age of 46 following a prolonged illness. Originally from Elvas, she began singing at the age of seven and moved to Lisbon in 2006 to perform in prestigious venues such as Clube de Fado, Sr. Vinho, and Mesa de Frades.

Santos gained national recognition through various television appearances, including a notable performance on The Voice Portugal in 2016 and participation in RTP programs such as ‘Há Fado na Praça’ and ‘SuperEstrelas’. Her career highlights include reaching the final of the ‘Há Fado na Mouraria’ competition and winning the Quinta Grande Noite de Fado in 2019.

Funeral services are scheduled to take place at the Elvas Funeral Complex, with cremation to follow the ceremony.
