Malaysian Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has called on content creators, influencers, and social media users to exercise decorum and humanity regarding former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Following the passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, Fahmi urged the public to provide Dr Mahathir and his family with the necessary space and time to grieve. He noted that while there is significant public interest in the former Prime Minister’s health and current status, not all developments should be treated as news or social media content.

Fahmi specifically warned against the spread of speculative posts, humiliating content, and insensitive material generated by artificial intelligence (AI). He advised users not to engage with, comment on, or share such content, instead urging them to report inappropriate material directly to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) or the police. This request for privacy follows a similar plea from Dr Mahathir’s son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.
