FAI of Como joins coalition to protect Monte San Primo, rethink ski plans
The delegation of the Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano (FAI) in Como officially joined the "Salviamo il Monte San Primo" coordination, raising the number of member associations to 40. In a joint statement the group called for a climate‑aware revision of the "Oltre Lario" ski development project, especially the low‑altitude "Baby Pianone" and "Baby Park" ski areas, arguing that milder winters and reduced artificial snow make them unsustainable.
The coordination proposes redirecting public funds toward trail maintenance, restoration of existing buildings such as the former Colonia Bonomelli, and broader environmental protection, promoting year‑round hiking, cultural and sporting activities. The plan for the Monte San Primo area totals over €5 million, with €2 million earmarked for the building restoration and €1.9 million for the ski piste works. The coalition also seeks to nominate Monte San Primo for the FAI’s "Luoghi del Cuore" registry.
