Fair Play art fair reports high attendance but slow sales in London

The inaugural Fair Play art fair in London reported high attendance but subdued sales during its launch in Frieze week. Held at One Marylebone, the artist-first event drew over 3,000 attendees to its private view.

Unlike traditional fairs, Fair Play allows artists to exhibit via individual stands rather than through galleries. The fair retains a 50% commission on sales, including VAT. While many of the 70 exhibiting artists reported no sales, founder Ryan Stanier described the opening night as the best he has ever hosted.

Notable sales included two sculptures by London-based artist Lea Rose Kara, which sold for £300 and £3,200. Other participants, such as sculptor Eleanor Turnbull, noted significant interest in potential commissions despite the lack of immediate transactions.
