Fairfax County Police Arrest 19-Year-Old Suspect in Groveton Shooting

On July 28, Fairfax County detectives responded to a shooting at the 7200 block of Fairchild Drive in Groveton. A man was found with a gunshot wound to the upper body and was taken to a local hospital in life‑threatening condition. Investigators determined the victim and the shooter, identified as 19‑year‑old Rusbel Alberto Argueta of Alexandria, had been involved in a verbal argument before the shooting.

Argueta was arrested at the scene, a firearm was recovered nearby, and he was charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, discharge of a firearm within 1,000 feet of an elementary school, and an emergency protective order. He is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. A separate individual was also arrested for public intoxication.
