Fairfax County police investigate fatal crash involving woman in wheelchair

A 53-year-old woman, identified as Theresa Flynn of Chantilly, was killed after being struck by a vehicle while using a mobility wheelchair on Route 50 in Fairfax County, Virginia.

The incident occurred around 7:27 p.m. on September 18 near the intersection of Route 50 and Plaza Lane in the Greenbriar area. Investigators report that Flynn was attempting to cross the roadway from south to north when she was hit by a westbound Kia Rio. Police noted that she was not within a crosswalk at the time of the collision.

Emergency responders transported Flynn to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she later died. The driver of the Kia remained at the scene and was uninjured. Preliminary findings from the Fairfax County Police Department indicate that speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash. The Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
