Fairfax County prosecutor faces recall effort with 11,000 signatures

A recall petition to remove Fairfax County Commonwealth Attorney Steve Descano has collected over 11,000 signatures. The effort was launched by Cheryl Minter following the fatal stabbing of her daughter, Stephanie Minter, by an individual with a history of over 30 arrests.

Descano is facing criticism regarding his prosecution policies and public safety decisions. Critics point to a recent incident where a man found not guilty by reason of insanity for murdering his landlord was granted a 48-hour pass from a state mental hospital. Additionally, Republican members of the House Judiciary Committee have accused Descano of withholding information related to his office's policies regarding illegal aliens and have requested further cooperation with their oversight efforts.
