Fairfield County outlines roadmap for data center regulation

Fairfield County has announced an eight-month roadmap to study the impact of the data center industry and establish permanent land-use regulations. The process, which includes community town halls, workshops, and public hearings, is scheduled to run from October 2026 through June 2027.

This initiative follows a unanimous County Council vote in August to implement a 12-month moratorium on data center development and a resolution prohibiting such facilities on county-owned land. The review aims to evaluate how large-scale data centers affect local resources, power grids, and rural landscapes. The roadmap consists of four phases: community town halls, industry research, planning commission reviews, and legislative action by the council.
