Fairphone prepares to announce Fairbuds 2 modular earbuds
Fairphone is expected to announce its new Fairbuds 2 wireless earbuds later this month, likely on October 14. The upcoming model is a successor to the original Fairbuds and is expected to feature a significant design departure, moving from a rounded, stemless body to a more traditional stem-style look.
Reports indicate the Fairbuds 2 will maintain a modular design, a core mission for the Dutch tech company. While specific replaceable parts have not been fully detailed, the original model earned a perfect 10/10 repairability score from iFixit due to seven individually replaceable components. There is speculation regarding whether the new design will include a larger battery, given the thicker charging case and new stem structure.
Technical specifications suggest the earbuds may adopt Sony’s LDAC Bluetooth audio compression technology for high-quality wireless sound. The product is expected to launch first in Europe before a global rollout, with an estimated price of approximately $119, which would be a decrease from the original model's $162 price point.
