FAIRTIQ to test invisible public transport check-in in Frankfurt and Zlín Region

The Swiss company FAIRTIQ has begun developing a new generation of contactless check-in technology known as Be-In/Be-Out (BIBO). The goal of the 'BIBO Next' project is to make the ticketing process 'invisible' by allowing passengers to board buses or trolleybuses without manually activating an app.

The technology uses the app to recognize when a passenger is traveling by matching their movement and location with official transit schedules. If a user's position corresponds to a specific route and stops at scheduled stations, the app will automatically calculate and charge the fare.

Testing for this automated system is expected to take approximately two years and will be conducted in two distinct environments: the densely populated metropolitan area of Frankfurt, Germany, and the Zlín Region in the Czech Republic, which has a lower population density. Currently, around ten thousand people in the Zlín Region use the existing FAIRTIQ application, which requires manual activation before travel.
