Fairtrade Africa to host Change Day 2026 in Accra
Fairtrade Africa will host the Change Day 2026 event in Accra on August 27, bringing together cocoa buyers, policymakers, and producer organizations. The gathering coincides with the organization's Annual General Assembly.
The meeting follows the release of the 2026 Fairtrade Living Income Reference Prices for Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, which together account for approximately 60 percent of global cocoa production. These reference prices serve as an evidence-based benchmark to help the industry address the gap between current farm-gate pricing and the income required for households to achieve a living wage.
Despite a sharp decline in global cocoa prices since late 2024, West African smallholder farmers face increased financial pressure because production costs have continued to rise. Fairtrade Africa, which represents nearly 1.5 million farmers and workers, aims to use these new benchmarks to mitigate the impact of market volatility on farmer livelihoods.
