Fairtrade Campaign Boosts Sustainable Food and Coffee Events in Germany

At the Johannes Gutenberg Gymnasium in Waldkirchen, Germany, a "Fair Breakfast" was organized for sixth‑grade students as part of the nationwide Fairtrade Germany initiative. The buffet offered only organic, fair‑trade or locally produced items, including bread from Waldkirchen bakery Kittl, milk from Hofmolkerei Wilhelm, Fairtrade bananas, and a Fairtrade‑provided pack of nougat cream, honey, orange juice, muesli bars and chocolate cereal. The program aimed to educate youths about food origins and the environmental and social impact of consumer choices.

Separately, GEPA hosted a coffee‑cupping event during Fair Week that linked a tasting lab in Wuppertal with participants in Piura, Peru. German staff (Hanna Schmid, Franziska Bringe, Barbara Schimmelpfennig) and Peruvian representatives (Javier Domínguez Arbildo, Q‑grader Rodolfo Cruz) evaluated two GEPA coffee blends, discussing aroma, quality and fair‑trade standards.
