Fairtrade Fortnight campaign focuses on fair pay in UK regions

The Fairtrade Fortnight campaign, running from September 21 to October 4, is being observed in various UK regions with a focus on the theme of fair pay. The initiative aims to highlight the struggles of farmers and workers globally who produce goods such as coffee, tea, chocolate, and bananas, often facing inadequate wages and unsafe conditions.

In Monmouthshire, the County Council is participating through community events, including coffee mornings, film screenings, workshops, and school assemblies. Local community hubs will host displays and quizzes to encourage the purchase of Fairtrade products to support fairer working environments and community investment in education and healthcare.

Devon, which has held Fairtrade County status since 2008, is also reaffirming its commitment to the movement. Devon County Council supports ethical trade by providing Fairtrade drinks at meetings, selling products in staff cafés, and including Fairtrade requirements in procurement contracts to promote dignity and sustainability in global trade.
