Fairtrade Week initiatives launched across Belgium

Organizations including Climaxi, vzw ’t Uilekot, and Eco & Fair are celebrating Fairtrade Week with various promotional activities across Belgium to advocate for fair trade systems. One initiative involves the distribution of 500 free fairtrade chocolate mousses, made with ingredients sourced via Oxfam Fair Trade from small-scale farmers in the Global South and produced locally in Hofstade.

In Gistel, the Oxfam-Wereldwinkel is highlighting Congolese fairtrade coffee from the Women’s Hope cooperative. To promote this, the shop is hosting coffee discussions and a national exchange program where customers can bring an empty coffee package to receive a free 250g pack of Women’s Hope Congo coffee. Additionally, customers purchasing one kilogram of coffee can receive a free mug.

Local hospitality businesses are also participating by offering special fairtrade-themed dishes. For example, establishments in Gistel are serving fairtrade sandwiches, spaghetti, or lunches, with customers receiving discount vouchers for the local World Shop upon ordering.
