Faisal Hasnain calls for expansion of Test cricket nations

Faisal Hasnain, former ICC Chief Financial Officer and former CEO of the Pakistan Cricket Board, has raised concerns regarding the effectiveness of global cricket development. Speaking on his Cricket Capital platform, Hasnain argued that the premier format of the sport remains too exclusive, noting that there are still only 12 Test-playing nations after more than 150 years of international cricket.

Hasnain suggested that adding several new competitive teams could strengthen national cricket systems and create more opportunities for players. Using the West Indies as an example, he noted that restructuring could allow more individual countries to represent themselves at the highest level rather than relying on a single regional administration. He argued that a broader landscape would encourage greater accountability and financial self-sufficiency among cricket administrations.
