Falk Ist footwear company dismisses 62 workers in Knjaževac

The footwear manufacturer Falk Ist, located in Knjaževac, has dismissed 62 workers. The United Unions of Serbia ‘Sloga’ warned that an additional 400 employees could face layoffs by the end of the year.

Željko Veselinović, president of the Sloga union and a member of the Serbian Parliament, has called on national and local authorities to investigate the company’s business operations. He noted that while layoffs due to technological redundancy are not inherently controversial, the scale of the announced reductions is concerning. Veselinović also highlighted previous findings by the Ministry of Finance and the Tax Administration regarding tax irregularities within the company, urging the state to intervene to protect both workers and public revenue.
