Fall City teen accused of killing five family members to be tried as an adult

A King County Superior Court judge has ruled that a 17-year-old accused of killing five family members in Fall City, Washington, will be tried as an adult. Judge Veronica Galván granted the state’s motion to decline juvenile jurisdiction, citing the extreme severity of the alleged offenses and the deliberate nature of the crime.

The charges stem from an October 2024 attack in which the defendant, a surviving son, allegedly killed Mark and Sarah Humiston, as well as children Katheryn, Joshua, and Benjamin Humiston. The teen faces five counts of aggravated first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder. Evidence presented during the hearing suggested the attack involved premeditated steps, such as retrieving a firearm from a locked safe and attempting to alter the crime scene.

While the defense argued for juvenile court jurisdiction based on the defendant's history of psychological trauma and mental health struggles, Judge Galván determined that six of the eight Kent Factors favored adult court. If convicted, the defendant would serve his sentence in a juvenile facility until age 25, after which he would be transferred to the Department of Corrections. A court order currently prevents the teen from being named in the media.
