Fall foliage in Chester County and Philadelphia expected to peak in late October
Fall foliage in Chester County and the broader Philadelphia region is expected to reach its peak in late October. According to reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, significant rainfall during the summer and September has helped recharge forests that were previously drought-stressed, which is expected to result in more vibrant autumnal colors.
In southeastern Pennsylvania, peak viewing is typically projected between October 20 and October 31. While the northern Poconos region, including parts of Wayne and Pike counties, saw peak colors in early October, the Philadelphia area and its surrounding collar counties are currently in the “just starting” stage of color change.
Recommended viewing locations include French Creek State Park, Marsh Creek State Park, and various arboretums such as the Morris Arboretum & Gardens and Tyler Arboretum. The quality of the display remains dependent on upcoming weather, as heavy rain or high winds could prematurely knock leaves from the trees.
